(February 5, 2009) –The World Golf Hall of Fame will celebrate the thread that binds generations of United States Presidents – golf – with its annual President’s Day Weekend celebration Saturday, Feb. 14 through Monday, Feb. 16. With regular Hall of Fame admission, the public can tour the museum – including its newest special exhibit, “Bob Hope: Shanks for the Memory” – and explore stories and memorabilia from one of American presidents’ favorite past-times. Also throughout the weekend, active, retired and reserve military can enjoy free admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame and putting course. On Saturday, Feb. 14 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., visitors can compete in a closest-to-the-pin Presidential Challenge on the World Golf Hall of Fame’s Challenge Hole to win two, week-long passes to THE PLAYERS 2009, sets of Wilson golf clubs, rounds of golf courtesy of Last Minute Golfer and gift certificates from PGA TOUR Spa Laterra and PGA TOUR STOP at World Golf Village. In addition, throughout the weekend, guests can enter for the opportunity to win a variety of prizes including rounds of golf at World Golf Village’s golf courses – King & Bear and Slammer & Squire, an IMAX Theater movie club membership, World Golf Hall of Fame Gift Shop gift basket and more. During President’s weekend, visitors touring the Hall of Fame can enjoy a self-guided tour with the help of special President’s Day brochures and take in a number of images and items including video of Presidents Kennedy, Eisenhower and Clinton hitting the greens. Guests also can enjoy the museum's current special exhibit, “Bob Hope: Shanks for the Memory,” which features an “Oval Office” highlighting Hope’s close friendships on and off the course with numerous presidents. The area includes memorabilia such as a $10 bill signed by Richard Nixon as well as a gold-plated golf club Nixon gave to Hope. On the Hall of Fame’s traditional tour, former Presidents’ involvement in golf – including George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Franklin D. Roosevelt and William Howard Taft – are documented throughout the museum with stories, photos and video noting their friendships with some of golf’s greatest legends. Guests also can take in the original Presidents Cup trophy on display. With admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame, guests also can try their hand at the 18-hole natural grass Putting Course, which was put to the test by former President George H. W. Bush. Visitors to the museum also will receive an admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX Theater. Movies playing at the theater during President’s Day weekend include the newest IMAX release, Under the Sea, as well as Wild Ocean and The Dark Knight (a special engagement film). The World Golf Hall of Fame is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is $19.50 for adults, with discounts for seniors, children and students, and includes a round on the Hall of Fame’s Putting Course and admission to one IMAX film.
