"In Their Own Words"
Stories from Solheim Captains and Participants

Pat Bradley and I were teamed together in the very first match in Solheim Cup history – a foursomes match against Laura Davies and Alison Nicholas in 1990 at Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando.

At the time the two of us had combined to win 69 LPGA Tour titles and nine major championships, yet I was very, very nervous. There was so much pressure to represent my country.

Pat asked how I felt and I said, “I’m scared to death.” It was a tough moment. To hit that first shot really meant something. Pat and I said, “Do you want to go first?” Neither of us wanted to be the first one.

Nancy Lopez and I were the first out of the box during the inaugural Solheim Cup. Little did we know that we’d start such an important event that has emerged as one of the pinnacles in women’s golf. I hit the first shot and the rest is history.

I am thrilled that The Solheim Cup is such an exciting competition and I am impressed with how hard players work to get on the team. Every player knows when it is a Solheim Cup year and they put forth extra effort to make the team.
